Keeping your car’s number plates

The Milton Keynes Police and Community Safety Partnership ‘Safer MK’ in conjunction with Halfords auto centre in Duncombe Street, Bletchley is offering members of the public the opportunity to have tamper proof VRN screws fitted for free.

Trained staff at Halfords supported by Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) will be available to fit the screws from 9am until 4.30pm on Saturday 14 June 2014.

Halfords has agreed to continue to fit any screws left over after this event, free of charge, upon request.

Crime Prevention and Reduction Officer, Amanda Oak said: “Our crime figures at the end of the business year showed that there have been 1,651 incidents of theft from vehicles in Milton Keynes.

“In order to reduce the number of number plate thefts, which is included within this figure, we have invested in tamper proof VRN screws. With these tamper proof screws fitted, it makes it more difficult to steal the number plates from a vehicle.

We encourage people to take advantage of the opportunity to protect their vehicles from theft and welcome the public to attend this event in order to speak to their Police Community Support Officers about protecting their vehicles.”
